response to "has the sexual revolution been good for women?"

Central Argument: has the sexual revolution been good to women? Yes. By being able to control pregnancy many women are being able to enjoy sex and lead independent, child free lives.

I agree with Ann Patchett when she claims that the sexual revolution has been good to women. I also want to add to her argument that it has also been good to men. Now men and women around the world can engage in the most consensual freely and not have to worry about the consequences. Women don’t have to go through nine months of trouble and the pain of childbirth and men don’t have to bear the responsibility or guilt of being the father of a bastard. The sexual revolution has done wonders for this world and, in many ways transformed the society in which we live. Women, who think that they would make bad parents, can successfully lead independent and childfree lives while still being able to enjoy the pleasure, and many benefits of sex. After the sexual revolution, women have been given control of their own womb thus decreasing the existing gap between the equality of men and women. The sexual revolution has really been beneficial to many women around the world as they are now able to pursue career’s without the overwhelming responsibility of raising a child and being able to enjoy the benefits of the most consensual act known to man.

The sexual revolution, which rode into town on the backs of those pink plastic cases of birth-control pills, was, after all, not so much a matter of sleeping around as it was of having the ability to decide when you were going to have a child, and then deciding how many children you wanted to have.” The sexual revolution has given women freedom from the natural laws that they were bound by, but like any other issue every argument always has an opposition. The author of this article proposes a great point to all those that oppose the use of contraceptives. She says, “If the sexual revolution offends you, stay away from it. If, say, you don't approve of birth control, then choose not use it.” Democracy gives us the free will to do whatever we want, and however we choose to do it. If women choose to take advantage of the sexual revolution, and reap the benefits let them. Similarly, if conservative woman want to sit at home and complain about how unethical contraceptive’s are and maintain the social gap between men and women, let them.

The sexual revolution has been beneficial to both men and women as it enables couples around the world to engage in a partnership where they can have all the sex they want, and still be free of the burden of pregnancy. Like most other revolutions that have occurred in our long history, the sexual revolution to has transformed our society in numerous ways allowing women to pursue independent live and closing the social gap between men and women.
